What is it?

The Form V Bikadò is a system of training and pruning of fruit trees very similar to Form V, but the wall is obtained from a single production plant where they are folded by two to four main branches. On the wall productive fit poles and a pair of arms, while the two ends of the same two wires are laid together with the bamboo sticks that will form the sloping wall where they will set the plants. The term refers Bikadò your use of the bamboo that calls crop husbandry techniques of the Far East. It can also take the form Y, which is mainly used for the cultivation of the Olive, while the V-shape Bikadò as a variant of the simple V-shape is used for the breeding of crops such as Cherry, Pear, Peach.

Distances and Parameters

The distances and the configuration parameters of the form V Bikadò, are very similar to the V-shape simple, although variations may occur depending on the type of the orchard in which it is applied. The general characteristics, always refer to Form V, from which it stems, the plants are the distance of 0.50 meters apart, the distance between the poles of 6 m between rows and 3.2 m -3.5.

Benefits

Compared to the simple V-shape, the Bikadò seems to allow a greater reduction in costs of the plant, due to the fact that it reduces the number of plants to use as a wall production, the Bikadò, in fact, only a selected plant. The Form V Bikadò also ensures a good sun exposure and an excellent irradiation of fruits, with a considerable amount of control the vigor of the plant, eliminating the risk of friction between them and the facilitation of harvesting operations.

Bikadò from V to Y

The Form V Bikadò is determined by the number of main branches selected and bent, while the Y-shape, the number of selected branches and stem. The spurs or branches, depending on the number that are selected will determine the shape of "geometric" plant. Two main branches and trunk create the Y, four alternating two by two, top and bottom, the X, two spurs without the stem form the V. Different forms, therefore, in a single structure, while the V-shape and simple alternative bent alternately left and right, the branches of various plants, which started from the base, in the absence of the trunk, to form the classic V. The Y shape was used in the intensive cultivation of the Olive. Each branch is tilted about 30 ° to the vertical line and is positioned in the same direction of spin. The Y shape in the oil and gradually came into disuse because of the complexity of the pruning. Still practiced, especially in the cultivation of orchards, the derivatives of the system in Palmetto which also includes the Form V, Form V and Form Y Bikadò

History

The Form V Bikadò has emerged as a variant of Form V-simple as all systems derived from Palmetta requires the support to set the orientation of the branches. Supports that could be a wall on which to place the wall productive systems (espalier) or structures made of poles and wires (espalier systems). The Palmetta system in all its variations, from V to Y has spread from the nineteenth century, but over the years needs to reduce system operating costs, the need to mechanize the steps of pruning and collection and the need to increase production and quality of its fruits, they did gradually abandon farming systems in Palmetto in favor of more modern or intermediate forms that have been adopted since the 80s and in which we can return the Bikadò V-shape, more manageable form of the V-traditional. This system allows you to control the vigor of the plant that will not reach excessive heights. How to Form a V-dwarfing rootstocks used to be able to slow the elongation of the plant.

Planting density

The Form V Bikadò lends itself to intensive crop farming systems that allow you to get more than 1200 plants per hectare, coming, as for the classical V-shape, even at 5000 plants per hectare. The wall structures, where you use the Form V, are, however, suitable for flat terrain. With this system of farming harvesting and pruning are carried out directly from the ground, so that in France is called "verger Piéton"  pedestrian orchards.

Pruning

The pruning of Form V Bikadò are similar if not identical, to those of the traditional V-shape, which in turn follows the criteria of pruning of cordon system, also called columnar axis. Pruning will be carried out by removing the shoots too vigorous or improperly positioned. The fruiting spurs, which have an over-development, instead, they shorten. Efforts must also renewed with the return of the cuts, while cuts favor the formation of side shoots.
