Plastic stakes

Photo Gallery

The plastic stakes (PVC), proposed thirty five years ago, had a considerable distribution in many wine-growing areas and are still used in lengths up to the first or second  bearing wire or, less frequently, until the last wire. For the construction it is used a of high-quality UV-stabilized PVC, with no doubt weatherproof. For economic reasons it is provided the use of some pellets obtained during the change colour stages of industrial production, making the cost of stakes more competitive. The production starts with the granulated that fused at 200 ° C and pressed during the processing, comes out by extrusion in the size and shape given by the mold, even with the possible internal reinforcing rib. The external shape can be cylindrical or polygonal with 4, 6, 8 or more sides. The surface has a smooth finish, ruled or imitating a bamboo cane. To achieve this slight bump, useful for increasing the tightness of the fastening, it is used an intermittent device that models a section of the tube just extruded (therefore still deformable) with a pneumatic sucking power. The tube proceed its processing in the cooling room and is then cut into the desired length and inclination. Examples of canes produced and installed in Piedmont in 1964 are still in perfect condition.

It is of course required a rational implementation. You should avoid useless stress on the top of the stake, this can happen when the central poles are rather far apart and the growing  system with falling vegetation (central curtain, Casarsa, spurred cordon, etc..) implies a single wire at the top of the main supports. It is possible to request the desired length (for example, to reach the first wire, the second or the top) at no additional cost, being easy to set the cut frequency in the factory.
